Creation of a new gallery shop in Tunbridge Wells

TUNBRIDGE WELLS

We were commissioned to produce a concept design for the full refurbishment and fit-out of a new contemporary art gallery near the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells. The interior design consisted of new spatial arrangement proposals, bespoke display cabinets and furniture, reception desk, stairs, lighting and finishes. We worked closely with the clients to ensure our proposals reflected their aspirations for the gallery, and provided both concept and technical drawings to enable them to realise the new space.

The concept for the design was about layering the space and providing a transition for the bright ground floor space into the darker basement. We used planes of materials wrapped in a concrete tile, fading from light to dark as they more further into the space.

A new metal staircase with heavy metal balustrades gives an industrial edge to the basement space, where floor joists were exposed and painted black to create an extra sense of height.
